Naarm/Melbourne based artist Hektor is excited to share his new EP, ‘Nighthawks’. ‘Nighthawks’ is Hektor’s sophomore release, following on from his debut EP, ‘Rituals’, released May 2020 to strong support from community radio & triple j. Another exciting offering from the newcomer, who is quickly carving out a unique voice in the Australian electronic landscape.
On ‘Nighthawks’, Hektor states:
‘For me, the release is pure escapism. Euphoria, drama, joy - a way to channel feelings and emotions that have been few and far between during the past 18 months. Life in 3D’
Indeed, from the opening few notes, we are instantly transported to Hektor’s world, where we remain for a 33 minute journey of highly textural, romantic electronic music. On the high energy ‘Day Trader’, layers of complex synth melodies weave together to form a coherent whole, propelled forward by a thumping, off-kilter beat. On the beat-less, ‘Johnny H.C.’, a locked synth line holds fast, while a world of complex harmonic content builds and fades around it to dramatic effect. On ‘Valentina’, layers of joyful, glistening synths are artfully arranged, to maximize a serotonin fueled listening experience. An ambient interlude, ‘Bridge of Sighs’ takes us through to ‘Morning Sun’, a somewhat epic exposition of vintage string and choir samples and an 808 bass line. Unity is restored in the finale, ‘Coda’, a surprisingly peaceful meeting place of organ and trance synth patches.
This is on full display throughout ‘Nighthawks’, a carefully crafted emotional rollercoaster from an artist who is treading his own path through the electronic music landscape.
